Property Impact of New Orleans Flood Map Changes

Property Impact of New Orleans Flood Map ChangesOn September 30, 2016, updated flood maps, known officially as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), will be issued for New Orleans, much of which was devastated by flooding from levee breaches caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

This report features interactive maps that compare original FIRMs for the city of New Orleans (the Orleans Parish) issued on March 1, 1984, to the new FEMA FIRMs that will become effective on September 30, 2016. The report also identifies:

  • The number of single family residential properties moving into and out of Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs).
  • The associated reconstruction cost value (RCV) of those properties affected by the map changes.
