Unified Network Architecture, Mobile Access

CoreLogic’s unified communications
system enables mobile access
without compromising network security.

Our network is our business. We use it to create and deliver products, distribute data, provide access to applications, communicate with our clients, and much more.

What kind of network we wanted going forward was an important consideration in our IT consolidation. Should we retain a traditional “top-down” architecture that assumes most of the network’s value resides in the data center or move to what’s called a “unified network” that assigns value across the whole network, including its many nodes? We opted for a unified network.

Like the changes brought by Web 2.0 to the online user experience, our unified network takes advantage of technology advances to speed, simplify, and extend use of our network even while improving our ability to manage it efficiently.

Some benefits of our unified network include:

  • High-availability
  • Dynamic load-balancing
  • Enhanced visibility with improved data security
  • Common system that simplifies client system configurations

And it enables “anytime/anywhere” mobile network access:

  • Automatic device detection at the network layer
  • Web Oriented Architecture-enabled user-browser operation
  • Continued rapid growth of our mobile technology/platform strategy

Built-In Collaboration

Our virtualized technology resources and unified network also enable a unified communication system that speeds and simplifies strategic and project collaboration.

Combining high-definition visual, audio and collaboration technologies, our TelePresence studios provide immersive meeting environments.

With options ranging from voice-over-IP telephony to online collaborative workspaces to full TelePresence video conferencing, our collaboration capabilities enable innovative teamwork, shorten solution development times, and offer device-agnostic “anytime/anywhere” access.

Unified communications also power our 24/7/365 service desk and incident management process, providing you full support any day of the week, any time of the day or night.

On-Demand Capacity

With the widespread use of increasingly data-intensive applications, information access and storage can quickly outgrow company forecasts (IDC predicts that the need for data storage will increase at an annual growth rate of more than 95% over the next decade). Our purpose-built facilities enable maximum on-demand scalability with a minimum of hassle—making it quick and easy for you to expand your capacity or upgrade your services when the need arises.

Our flexible, purpose-built facilities are designed to scale
quickly and efficiently as demand grows.

Service-Level Agreements, Client Managers

Our service-level agreements (SLAs) describe in objective detail the services we supply to clients as well as the tools and capabilities we provide them to measure our effectiveness. The agreements define service standards, designate performance responsibilities, and assign delivery timeframes. Whether or not you sign an SLA, however, you are assigned a permanent client manager to assist you in defining and accomplishing your goals.

Our client managers work closely with you to quantify,
measure, and realize your goals.

Characteristics of our SLAs and client managers:

  • SLAs include detailed objectives and key performance indicators, with monthly scorecards specified to track performance and define trends
  • By default, all SLAs include ITIL-certified 24/7/365 support and incident management
  • Your client manager, an experienced technology and business professional, becomes your main point of contact and works hand-in-hand with you to realize your goals
  • Client manager responsibilities include facilitation of your program, communication of your needs and viewpoint, and negotiation of any conflicts that arise
  • Our client managers are selected both for their technical skills and system familiarity and their knowledge and experience in your business area
  • Flexible, transparent SLAs eliminate misunderstandings and conflict, resulting in competitive-level costs for our best-in-class services and solutions

Virtualization has transformed our data centers by decoupling servers from physical hardware and enabling an unprecedented degree of infrastructure flexibility and availability. But while this has created remarkable efficiencies—server consolidation, self-service provisioning, capacity management, disaster recovery—it has also introduced new security challenges.

Virtualization enables the quick creation of new system
configurations for security testing.

With virtualization data is delivered as though it originated on a single server, even when several servers may actually be involved. This adds a layer of abstraction to our resource map—and has caused a fundamental shift in how we approach security. Since there is no longer a direct connection between digital resource and physical location, we now treat the two as intersecting but separate security categories:

  • Physical security
  • Digital security

Physical Security

Our purpose-built data centers and physical network were designed and built to the highest standards of location and environmental security. The certainty of future changes—in the technologies they house and the security necessary to protect them—were part of the buildings’ concept from the beginning. Both highly secure installations are located on company campuses and are fully managed by us. Although our team of IT managers numbers nearly 400—supported worldwide by more than 12,000 IT associates—we also utilize expert services from leading security and other IT vendors (see “Partners” tab).

Data center security includes:

  • Continuous intrusion detection, intense entry authentication
  • Around-the-clock biometric locks, video surveillance, man-traps
  • Base-isolation structural dampers to withstand 8.5 magnitude earthquake without interrupting operations
  • Self-sustaining redundant electrical, mechanical, support systems

Network security includes:

  • Dedicated 10-gigabit fiber linking data centers
  • Seamless automatic application failover
  • Dynamic load-balancing between centers
  • Automatic backup between centers
  • Diverse carrier configuration enabling uninterrupted service

Mounted on massive “base isolator” shock absorbers, our data centers can survive earthquakes many times the magnitude of the 1906 San Francisco quake.

Digital Security

In addition to full protection of traditional servers, our digital security system provides layered protection to secure both active and inactive virtual machines in our cloud environment. This virtual security process employs dedicated virtual machines that scan the system continuously, in coordination with agents in each VM. These virtual cops detect and prevent intrusions, monitor firewall integrity, inspect logs, catch and quarantine malware, and prevent data breaches.

Since our traditional and virtual security solutions run in tandem, we can identify suspicious activities and implement preventive measures instantly if either environment is compromised.

Our digital security features include:

  • Multi-layer user security (advanced SSL, firewall filtering, etc.)
  • Unique "session keys" assigned to all SSL-encrypted client communications
  • Environment-agnostic access control, anti-malware protection, intrusion detection
  • Continuous file integrity checking, log management, vulnerability testing
  • Ongoing security policy review/development, staff awareness updating
  • ICSA (International Computer Security Association) certification that security system maintained in accordance with published policy
  • Secure mobility networking

Compliance

We manage our compliance processes using a risk-based approach that classifies information according to its degree of critical confidentiality—and assigns protective priorities accordingly. As our data volume grows, the sophistication of external threats increases, and government regulations become ever more complex, risk management is the only successful approach.

We rigorously risk-manage three aspects of compliance:

  • Regulatory compliance
  • Systems configuration compliance
  • Vulnerability management

The common goal of all government regulations is protecting the integrity and security of financial and customer information. Government regulations we comply with automatically include:

  • Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
  • Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT)
  • Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC) Rules
  • Safeguards (Identity Theft) Rules
  • Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act (GLB)
  • Sarbanes-Oxley Act
  • EU Data Privacy

To ensure compliance with government regulations, we also protect our IT infrastructure by complying with the following industry standards:

  • Control Objectives for Information and related Technology (COBIT)
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
  • Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70)
  • CyberTrust Perimeter Security Certification

We proactively employ automatic system audits and scoring to measure the effectiveness of our controls and explore system vulnerabilities. This vulnerability management process continually:

  • Gathers comprehensive network and endpoint intelligence data
  • Uses advanced analytics to identify potential systemic risks
  • Prioritizes vulnerability fixes by degree of risk to critical systems

Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery

Business continuity planning and disaster recovery (BC/DR) were core concepts in the design of our IT infrastructure. Our unified network and dual redundant data centers were built to provide 100% survival of your precious digital assets in 99.9% of potential disaster events.

Although post-disaster business continuity depends on more than the recovery of data and information technology systems, large enterprises can’t begin to function without those data and systems. But simply protecting systems and information from harm is no longer enough to ensure a company’s ongoing viability. The information must be available dynamically across virtual environments, servers, applications, databases and data centers if today’s widely dispersed, highly interconnected enterprises are to continue functioning normally.

This is why we made a pivotal commitment to—and massive investment in—developing and implementing our all-inclusive data and infrastructure protection tools and capabilities. We wanted to ensure that no matter what happens, you will have what you need to operate successfully.

Our BC/DR tools and capabilities include:

  • Fully redundant data centers linked by dedicated 10-gigabit fiber
  • Centers mounted on base isolators that resist up to 8.5 earthquakes
  • State-of-the-art fire, flood, intrusion, outage protection plans, technologies
  • Data centers on separate power grids with backup diesel generators
  • Dynamic failover solutions that minimize operational errors
  • BC/DR capabilities routinely tested, evaluated by expert team
  • Regular infrastructure BC/DR plan review, updating, training
  • Available partner BC/DR consulting services
