Home Price Index Audio Clip: April 2016

Prices Are 7.9 Percent Below the 2006 Peak

The April 2016 HPI shows that home prices increased 6.2 percent from a year ago. Washington state and Oregon led the nation in appreciation – both showing double-digit gains in April. After five years of rising prices, the national HPI is now just 7.9 percent below the peak reached in April 2006. With prices expected to increase in the 5 percent range over the next year, the HPI is expected to return to peak in mid-2017.
