The CoreLogic Home Price Index ended 2016 with strong gains. The December HPI rose 7.2 percent from a year ago, and the full-year 2016 HPI was up 5.6 percent over full year 2015. The HPI is closing in on the 2006 peak, and is only 3.9 percent below that value. The HPI excluding distressed sales has now completely recovered from the housing crisis, once again reaching the 2006 peak in December 2016. The West experienced the biggest gains in 2016. Oregon, Washington, and Colorado held the top three spots for home price appreciation last year.
