Changes in the Way Social Security Numbers Are Assigned Will Effect Some Aspects of CoreLogic Teletrack Reporting

Currently, the Social Security Administration (SSA) assigns Social Security numbers based on geography and date range. In June, the SSA will migrate to a randomized method of assigning Social Security Numbers (SSN). This change will mean that companies, including Teletrack, who offer authentication services will not be able to validate SSN issued state and date ranges for those issued after July 1, 2011. Even though Teletrack will not be able to validate SSN issued state and date ranges for numbers issued after July 1, 2011 the company will still be able to validate those issued before the new method of SSN assignment is implemented.

This change is being made by the SSA in order to:

  • Continue using the nine-digit SSN for many more years without exhausting its supply of numbers.
  • Further protect an individual’s SSN from identity theft, fraud or misuse by making it more difficult to reconstruct an SSN using publicly available information.

Teletrack will no longer indicate that an SSN is invalid. Teletrack will return:

  • Unable to Verify - Indicates that the SSN was either issued after June 25, 2011 or never issued
  • Deceased - Indicates that the SSA has this SSN on record as deceased
  • Year and State of Issue – Indicates that the SSN is valid and was issued prior to June 25, 2011

This change will apply to the following services:

  • Alabama State Database
  • Faxed Reports
  • Identity Verification
  • RevealCheck
  • SocialGuard®
  • Text Reports
