The CoreLogic Home Price Index for August 2019 shows U.S. home prices increased 3.6% from a year earlier and are forecasted to increase 5.8% over the next year. Appreciation this August marked a big slowdown from a year earlier, when National home prices increased 5.5%. While the slowdown in appreciation occurred across the country and at all price points, it was most pronounced in the lower end of the market. In August 2019, prices for the lowest-priced homes increased 5.5%, compared with an increase of 8.4% in August 2018. This moderation in home price growth should be welcome news to entry-level buyers.
