Kim’s Story: The CoreLogic Employee Relief Fund

At CoreLogic, we believe in a community of support – that we are, in good times and in bad, better together. It is that bond that drives us to both celebrate peer achievements and be the shoulder to lean on when times are tough.

When the novel coronavirus pandemic first began, CoreLogic set up the Employee Relief Fund to help employees who are facing financial hardship immediately after an unforeseen personal life event.

We tagged up with Kim, a recipient of the CoreLogic Employee Relief Fund, to hear her story.

“On January 11, 2020, I took my husband, Craig, to Kaiser’s emergency room. He was confused and was unable to walk on his own without losing his balance. Three months later, on April 1, after undergoing two biopsies, two spinal taps and several other tests, the doctors notified me that Craig had brain cancer. By this point, his health had deteriorated significantly; he was on a ventilator and had to be put into a medically-induced coma.
On April 8, I went to the hospital with very high hopes and my faith that my best friend of 27 years was going to come off the machine, open his eyes, and smile to let me know he was ready to continue this fight together. However, that did not happen. Instead, I was there holding his hand and talking to him while praying that everything would be okay when he took his final breath.

My world as I knew it shattered, and my heart was broken. Not only did I lose the love of my life and the father of my children, but I now had to go home to let my children know their dad passed away. The reality of everything came crashing down on me. I never expected that I would be unable to bring Craig back home to our family.

With the love and support of so many people, I was able to pick myself up and start planning for the mortuary to help Craig be ready for his final resting place. Going through this process and finding out the costs of everything made my head spin—we were not financially prepared for this at all.

Having a family at CoreLogic is very important. Without my CoreLogic family, I would not have been able to make it through the process. In the midst of everything going on, I learned about the CoreLogic Employee Relief Fund both from a colleague and from the email that was sent out to all employees. I was very nervous at first because I didn’t want to ask for help. I feared that I would not meet the qualifications, but I finally decided that it couldn’t hurt to try. I went to the Relief Fund website and created an account. The process was simple. They asked questions and only requested relevant information to move the process forward.

For me, the CoreLogic Employee Relief Fund helped to close the financial gap, and it made it possible for me to pay the remaining balance of my husband’s funeral expenses so I could schedule the homegoing services for Craig.

CoreLogic is creating ways to reach out and support employees in need, and all I can say is if you have experienced an unexpected life event, CoreLogic is here to support you and your family.”
