CoreLogic Grows Future Tech Talent Through
University Internship Programs

While the weather outside says fall, CoreLogic is already thinking about next summer and how we can make a difference in young people’s lives. Our team is hard at work planning and recruiting for our summer intern program. Each year, CoreLogic hires over 30 candidates across the United States to join us for 10 weeks. Interns are placed on various teams across the organization, from Software Engineering and UX roles in our Innovation labs to Data Science and Data Analytics roles in our Enterprise Data Group and even Product Management roles in our Underwriting & Workflow Solutions Business Unit, to help them hone their professional skills while gaining real-world experience. These positions are paid and combine work on robust projects, such as developing software features through pair programming, with broad exposure to the CoreLogic culture and work environment.

Leading the Recruitment Charge

The entire organization looks forward to the program every summer. For us, the fun part is finding and selecting candidates and bonding with a new group of talented interns. This year, CoreLogic visited nine campuses and participated in various professional development events. This included functions like career fairs, tech talks, women in engineering round tables and hackathons. For example, in October, some of our team leaders participated in The Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences’ (ICS) inaugural Industry Showcase at the University of California (UCI).

The full-day event, held at various sites on campus, brought together approximately 2,000 participants from the ICS student body, university community and industry partners. The goal of the event was to foster research and recruitment partnerships around rapidly-growing areas in technology like machine learning, cybersecurity, software engineering and human-computer interaction.

As a prominent corporate partner, the technology and data science leaders at CoreLogic hosted a tech talk that focused on machine learning for imagery extraction, trends in APIs and microservices and best practices in software development.

“University recruiting is a critical component of our talent strategy,” said Bethany Cooper, principal of talent acquisition. “It helps to educate young, soon-to-be professionals about the ins and outs of the industries in which CoreLogic operates. And ultimately, it drives a pipeline of new talent to our summer intern program – and beyond.”

Merging Tech, Talent and Culture

Events like the Industry Showcase give market leaders and experts at CoreLogic an opportunity to share their passion with fellow tech enthusiasts. Beyond this, it also provides young tech hopefuls with a glimpse into what a career in data and technology looks like, while increasing the company’s presence among local university partners. For organizations like CoreLogic, this is a win-win.

“My internship with CoreLogic was an invaluable opportunity to learn and apply the material I was taught in school to a real-world scenario,” said Jennifer Assaf, Professional Software Engineering, Irvine Innovation Labs. “I always felt like I was part of the team. My voice was heard, and my opinions were listened to. Most importantly, my team fostered and encouraged my growth and celebrated wins with me.”
