September 15 - October 15
As the weather begins to cool and the leaves change, we embrace both the beginning of fall and the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The celebration starts in the middle of the month, as opposed to the end, because the 15th marks the independence days of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
CoreLogic’s LatinXCore Employee Resource Group (ERG) champions the idea that employees should be able to bring their whole selves to work—that includes acknowledging and celebrating their ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
To that end, and in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the LatinXCore ERG hosted a discussion with Emmy-nominated Rafael Ayala, an expert in human and professional transformation working with entrepreneurs, executive and their organizations in 16 countries across the Americas and Europe. Rafael shared the rich history of Latinxs and Hispanics and their contributions to various fields throughout history as well as current and relevant business trends. Rafael led a fascinating discussion about who is Latino versus who is Hispanic and dispelled many myths about Latinos. He shared ideas around two ways to approach diversity and how best to celebrate our differences. Rafael inspired the group to think about ways both as individuals and as a company can leverage diversity and inclusion to achieve organizational excellence.
Team members in Dallas enjoyed sharing a taste of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico through a variety of sweet and savory pastries and Breakfast Tacos in Austin. LatinXCore coordinated screenings of a variety of films with a focus on music, immigration, gentrification and family across both sites along with snacks. The goodies continued at the Austin office as they enjoyed ice cream tacos.
To wrap up the month-long fiesta, the Dallas office is hosting Mariachi Perla de Mexico and the Austin office is hosting Loteria (Mexican Bingo).
As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, we look to listen to and elevate the voice of this broad, diverse and beautiful Latinx community at CoreLogic. We share our culture and history as a way to bring us all together and ultimately celebrate who we are and where we come from.
